Still getting into a routine but we did managed to have breakfast at the hotel on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The food consisted of made on the spot spanish omelette that consisted of your choice of either plain eggs or with red onion and carrot served with toast. There was also a selection of fruit consisting of watermelon, oranges, pineapple, and these little rolled up pancakes. There was also a mango juice that was very yummy and Tea or Coffee were available.
I found out that they have two types of bananas here in Tanzania, the long ones ( like the ones we have at home) that are used for cooking and the small sweet ones (called sweet bananas) that are for eating.

Heather's meeting was scheduled for the morning at the school location which was about 45 minute drive out of town. My meeting was scheduled at 3 pm and was at the Tanzania Tourism Board's offices in Arusha. I got to spend the day at the WUSC office and got to know the volunteers that are working there a bit better. Unfortunately Maturo, the Cultural Tourism Programme Coordinator at TTB who I was meeting with was not available on Wednesday and we had to reschedule for Thursday morning. No problem, it happens.
TTB offices at the Museum:
The TTB offices are located in a peaceful and beautiful setting. I would find it hard to concentrate to get work done if I had to work in such a beautiful setting.
Had my meeting on Thursday morning with Maturo and Manu that went fairly well. TTB and 4CCP had created a work plan that detailed what I would be doing. I received lots of documentation about Cultural Tourism enterprises and TTB and spent the rest of the morning reading them. In the afternoon Maturo and I went over the work plan and there seem to be a lot more work involving areas of expertise that I don't have. The work plan was sent to Manu and when my day was finished I spoke to Manu about it. She agree that the amount of work they are looking for is for a long term mandate (6 months or longer) but that also involves other areas of expertise such as public relations, marketing, and promotional/graphic design that I am not strong at. It was decided to have another meeting between myself, Maturo, and Manu on Monday morning to work out the details of what I will be doing for the three weeks that I have to complete it.
What I can gather is that sometime next week I will be heading out to Hydom (a little town 3 hours away from Arusha, towards Lake Manyara and Tarangire) to meet the staff of 4CCP. Apparently they are excited to have me out there and I am looking forward to meeting them and getting to work. I will be out there for either 6-12 days (to be determined during Monday's meeting) doing site visits with the four tribes from Hydom that act as host tribes for the cultural festival. I will be conducting training sessions with each tribe on stage presentation, attire and what an audience is looking for. I will also be coach and mentoring the staff at 4CCP on the structure of a festival and the general planning that goes into a festival. I will also be offering advice on records management for both the festival and cultural tourism center and creating a report on recommendations that I have for improving this year's festival. That's a lot for three weeks.
I want to give the 4CCP the best of my expertise and not provide them with half or incorrect information by trying to fulfill all the requests that I am not qualified for. I know we will figure it out and I am looking forward to seeing the offices, the space they use for the festival and the villages.
next post changing hotels and a cultural walk through a modern Maasai village..........
